Update: Intro to CQI Online Course

We've recently completed beta testing of the online course, Intro to CQI, and it is ready for launch. Here's some of the feedback beta testers had to share about their experience previewing the course:

  • "It was presented in a clear and concise manner."

  • "It was very informative. It highlighted the things that I didn't know and reinforced the things that I did know."

  • "Great content. Easy to understand and apply to your own role or personal life."

We are currently planning targeted messaging to folks who have not yet completed any Intro CQI training, along with staff who've recently been hired. We'll continue to share updates in this newsletter as they develop. Got questions? Contact us at fbo-pai@wayne.edu.

Update: Administrative Unit Review (AUR) Launch

The PAI team recently launched the pilot of a new WSU program called Administrative Unit Review (AUR). This is a formalized process that enables non-academic organizations in the university to review and assess their services, resources, and operations with a focus on identifying opportunities for improvement. It is an important enabler and contributor to developing a culture of continuous quality improvement.

The pilot organization is the Customer Services group within C&IT. With guidance provided by the PAI team, they are preparing their Self Study document; what follows that is a campus visit by three external peer reviewers from other universities; they will conduct a series of interviews with users/customers of the services provided and also with employees of the organization. The reviewers will provide a report back to the organization with recommendations for improving overall effectiveness of the organization and its services. The organization will then use those recommendations to prepare and execute an improvement plan. Got questions? Contact us at fbo-pai@wayne.edu.

Update: CQI in ActionWhat's Happening

PAI partners with and engages teams in FBO and across campus to identify and improve processes, addressing the various needs of S/C/Ds to create even better experiences for our students. Check out our project status page for a summary of past, present, and future PAI process improvement partnerships.

PAI is developing an interactive dashboard that will be available soon. Stay tuned and check back often! Got questions? Contact us at fbo-pai@wayne.edu.

D.O.W.N.T.I.M.E. Can Help

Remember Ben Franklin's common-sense reminders of "waste not, want not," and "a penny saved is a penny earned?" Just look at such luminaries like Henry Ford, who introduced the modern assembly line. The concept of waste reduction has long been a part of American business tradition. Anything that doesn't add value from the customer (student) perspective should be considered waste, and every effort should be made to eliminate that waste. The acronym "D.O.W.N.T.I.M.E." helps make it easier for staff to remember what can be considered waste so it can be more easily identified and eliminated.

Using simple tools and methods such as D.O.W.N.T.I.M.E. and others, the Office of Planning, Assessment & Innovation partners with teams in FBO and across campus to systematically eliminate these wastes to promote faster processes, higher quality, lower costs, more engaged staff, and, most importantly, an improved experience for our customersWayne State students!
